Sewer Request
I had no idea why a muscular man I'd never met was in my room.
Did I do something strange?
As I was thinking that…
“Tsk.”
The muscular man, with surprising speed for his size, tried to escape.
I had to stop him, so I quickly cast a spell.
“[Haste]”
“[Gravity]”
“[Lightning Chain]”
“Kuaaaaak!!!”
Hit by a series of spells, the muscular man collapsed to the floor, foaming at the mouth.
Now I was curious.
What was his goal in breaking into my room?
“Hmm.”
I decided to tie him up first. It would make things easier.
“[Bind]”
Then, I used another spell to wake up Olaf, who had fainted.
“[Soothing Rain]”
It wasn’t a powerful spell, but it was perfect for waking someone who had fainted.
Although the floor was now flooded because I used magic, I could clean it up later.
I'd rather have a messy room than let anyone else find out.
And well, I could clean it up quickly anyway.
As I was thinking this, the man lying on the floor regained consciousness.
Thud-
Of course, since I had tied him up, he could only thrash around in place.
The floor was soaked, so the more he moved, the more miserable he would feel.
Well, it wasn't like I had planned this.
It just worked out this way.
“So.. uh, why are you here?”
“Wrong room! I went into the wrong room!!”
“I locked the door, but you broke in… with an axe?”
“…”
An awkward silence fell between us.
Actually, this guy must be feeling pretty awkward right now.
He must have been trying to be careful, but I woke up as soon as he came in and blasted him with magic.
‘By the way…’
What did this man want from me?
I wasn't good at torture.
So, hoping he would cooperate, I asked him again.
“Then let me ask again. Why did you break into my room?”
“...Pouch, the subspace pouch.”
“Ah, I see.”
I had a feeling, but to think that was his real goal.
It gave me goosebumps.
I had hidden it well, but how did he find out about it and where I live, and then break in at night?
I couldn't kill him here.
Even though he was a robber, he hadn't actually harmed me, and I was only a Silver Badge rank adventurer.
Maybe if I were Gold Plate Rank, but as a Silver Badge, I didn’t have the authority to kill a robber.
So, I thought about it.
What could I do to make sure this man never did anything like this again?
“Ah, hold on a second.”
“...What are you trying to do?”
“Shh, just relax for a second.”
“[Electrolysis]”
I carefully examined his body using Electrolysis.
Touching this man's body was a bit disgusting, but I could bear it.
And a moment later.
“Kyaaaaaaaaaaaak!!!!!”
“Hey, keep it down. You were the one who broke in.”
He was a strange person.
If he was the one who broke into my room with an axe, he should be prepared to face the consequences.
Trying to get away with it…
How absurd.
So I cut the tendons in his feet as well.
“Sh.. Shit..! Ki.. Kill me, you crazy bastard..!!!”
“Hey, why are you cursing?”
I really couldn't understand him.
If he was going to try to take my life, he should have been prepared to lose his own.
Thinking that, I cast a spell.
“[Cleanse]”
As I poured mana into the spell formula, the dirty floor was instantly cleaned.
After cleaning up, I reached out to the man who resembled Olaf.
“[Teleport]”
I poured mana into the spell formula and teleported outside with the man who resembled Olaf.
“[Gravity]”
Holding the man, who couldn't even think about moving due to the [Bind] spell, I headed towards the nearest guard post.
The place I went to was near the lord’s castle.
It was a bit far, but I thought it would be safer to deal with it there.
If I tried to handle it nearby, the guards might not believe me and detain me for questioning.
So, it was better to go near the lord’s castle where I knew someone.
“Hello.”
“Ah, isn’t it Mr. Eugene?”
The guard who had been hostile towards me the first time we met was now using honorifics.
It seemed the lord had spoken well of me.
Well, it wouldn’t hurt me, so I just went with it.
“Could you perhaps escort this gentleman for me?”
“...Who is this man..?”
“Ah, he broke into my room and tried to steal something precious… but since I wasn't hurt, I couldn’t bring myself to deal with him personally.”
“How dare he..!”
As I spoke, the guard’s eyes flashed fiercely, and he drew his sword.
A faint aura emanated from the blade.
That must be his Aura.
“Sh.. Shit..! Kill this bastard first!!”
“Shut up! How dare you speak to Mr. Eugene like that! I’ll take it from here. Mr. Eugene, please go inside and rest.”
“Ah, well… okay.”
It seemed the lord was incredibly grateful to me.
The bandits I had brought in before must have been a real headache.
To think he would go this far to repay me.
With that thought, I released the [Gravity] spell and handed the man over to the guard.
"Well then, please go in."
"Goodbye."
I politely said my goodbyes and quickly returned to the inn where I was staying.
“Ugh, what a way to be woken up.”
I was tired.
Maybe it was because I was woken up in the middle of the night by someone else.
I was a little annoyed.
But it was fine now.
Now I could go back to sleep.
And so, I went back to sleep.
*
“Ah, hello.”
“You’re early today as well.”
“Well… I don’t have anything else to do. That’s why I’m early.”
After waking up in the morning and eating my magic soup, I immediately went to the Adventurers’ Guild.
I wanted to take on a quest.
Chatting with Esily was also enjoyable.
It was like she emitted an energy that made people feel good.
At least, that’s how it felt to me.
It might not be true, but…
As I thought that, I listened to what Esily had to say.
“Um… you’ve heard about the Andromalius sightings, right?”
“Ah, well… I’ve heard.”
“So, it’s actually best not to take on any quests right now… but if we don’t regularly clear out the monsters, a monster wave could occur and endanger Baruk.”
“That’s true.”
“So, what I’m trying to say is, how about slimes?”
“...Slimes?”
I was a bit taken aback.
Slimes at my level?
To put it bluntly, slimes were creatures I could easily crush even without using magic.
That’s how weak they were.
As I looked at Esily with that look in my eyes, she started to speak, flustered.
“Ah, of course, not ordinary slimes!”
“Then what?”
“Mutant slimes! Monsters that are a combination of slimes and werewolves…!”
“What kind of hybrid is that…”
Slimes and werewolves combined?
They were a completely mismatched pair.
And from my perspective, it didn’t matter if the two were fighting each other.
I could kill them both in one shot.
It was a bit of a letdown.
Perhaps sensing my disappointment, Esily carefully added,
“Well… these mutant monsters have made their nest in the sewers. So, we need to eliminate them as soon as possible to prevent harm to ordinary citizens…”
“Oh… then I’ll do it.”
“Really..? Then I’ll post a party recruitment notice right away!”
“It doesn’t seem that difficult, so I could go alone.”
“When going to subjugate this kind of monster nest, the requirement is at least three people… so going alone would be impossible…”
“Well, then I guess it can’t be helped. Please find a party for me.”
There was a reason why I immediately accepted upon hearing that the monsters were nesting.
If they were nesting, there would be a lot of monsters.
And if there were a lot of monsters?
There would be a lot of loot.
It was a chance to make a fortune.
Of course, I had a decent amount of money now, but still, the more money, the better.
There’s a reason why they say, “More is always better.”
“Then, I’ll find a party for you, so please come back around this time tomorrow…!”
“Ah, okay.”
With that, I submitted my request for the party and the next day arrived.
Creak-
Hearing the familiar sound of the Adventurers’ Guild door, I entered at the same time as yesterday and—
“Hmm? Isn’t that the mage fella?”
I saw a dwarf drinking beer.
“Oh, hello.”
“Long ti— well, not really. We just saw each other. You here for that sewer request?”
“Yes, I am.”
“What a coincidence! Hahaha!”
It did feel like fate to me too.
What were the chances of running into each other two days in a row?
I was a little happy to see him.
